By the words of the Lord the heavens were made
“ Let there be light” Genesis 1;3
God’s words are powerful bringing into being the Heavens and all the hoots of heaven , the angelic beings whose function is to praise Go. God’s command established the limits of the oceans, as a person might constrain water in a bottle(7a) and God created underground water that can gush forth in a spring (7b) God’s powerful word should inspire fear and awe on the part of the people of the earth(verse 8-9)
God’s word was not active in creation but is operative also in historial affairs of the nations.”the Lord brings counsel of the nations to nothing…”verse 10
Wise rulers will therefore submit to the will of God, who directs history history to its proper end. Blessed therefore, is the nation whose God God is the Lord (Yahweh, verse 12)
Old Testament writers found ocasión to praise the glories of God both in nature and in history. All of you can find traces of the work of God in natural phenomena -the beauty of a Forrest , a canyon, a brook, a sunset and in examples of progress in history for the increase of human welfare. But we can also find nature to red in tooth and claw, and history brings not only blessings but also disaster and untold suffering. Both History and the natural world need to “be set free from…bondage to decay”(Romans8:21)All have therefore looked to Jesus as the ultimate word of God, who prefigures our redemption as well as that of the natural world itself.
Psalm 33:1-12 NIV
Psalm 33
1
Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous;
it is fitting for the upright to praise him.
2
Praise the Lord with the harp;
make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre.
3
Sing to him a new song;
play skillfully, and shout for joy.
4
For the word of the Lord is right and true;
he is faithful in all he does.
5
The Lord loves righteousness and justice;
the earth is full of his unfailing love.
6
By the word of the Lord the heavens were made,
their starry host by the breath of his mouth.
7
He gathers the waters of the sea into jars[a];
he puts the deep into storehouses.
8
Let all the earth fear the Lord;
let all the people of the worldrevere him.
9
For he spoke, and it came to be;
he commanded, and it stood firm.
10
The Lord foils the plans of the nations;
he thwarts the purposes of the peoples.
11
But the plans of the Lord stand firmforever,
the purposes of his heart through all generations.
12
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,
the people he chose for his inheritance.
